Liposuction is a surgical procedure that is used to remove excess body fat using a suction equipment from specific areas of the body. The fat can be removed from the abdomen, hips, thighs, arms, and neck. Contouring these areas can also be done with liposuction. Other names of liposuction are Lipoplasty and body contouring
What Are The Types Of Liposuctions Available?
There are different types of liposuction procedures available, and most types use a special equipment that consists of a thin tube called a cannula. The cannula is connected to a vacuum for enabling the suction of fat from the body.
- Tumescent liposuction – This type is the most common technique of liposuction. Saline salt-containing saltwater with lidocaine and epinephrine is inserted into the area where the fat has to be removed. This solution makes the suction procedure easier with minimal loss of blood and pain.
- Ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL) – This technique uses sound waves to rupture the fat cell wall under the skin. The fat is liquefied and can be suctioned out easily.
- Laser-assisted liposuction – A laser is used to produce energy that liquefies the fat. This technique is also called the SmartLipo.
- Power-assisted liposuction (PAL) – The cannula used here moves back and forth rapidly. The vibration allows the surgeon to pull excess fat out with less pain and swelling. This procedure is suitable for removing large volumes of fat.
